Eighteen-year-old Madeline Stuart from Brisbane, Australia has Down Syndrome but she is defying all obstacles in her life to become an epitome of change of how we define beauty by becoming a fashion Super Model.
Her story has recently hit the headlines as she embarks to become a full pledge model under the clothing line livingdead
Typical of a person with Down Syndrome who are prone to obesity, Madeline initially had difficulty in losing weight. On top of that she gained more weight due to unhealthy lifestyle.
But Madeline loves to swim and dance and it frustrated her that she can’t do all these things as often as she wants due to the extra weight that is holding her back.
With the help of Rosanne, her Mother, Madeline lost 44lbs(20Kg). Now she contiues to swim up to five times a week, cheerleads and does hip-hop dance class.
According to her mother, Rosanne, what Madeline achieved didn’t came easily for her:
“In the beginning, Maddy struggled as she is very habitual and was used to eating a lot, so she had to break that cycle. I gave her a lot of support, and in about two months she created new habits.”
“She was unable to do cartwheels or handstands due to her weight.”
“People with Down syndrome can do anything, they just do it at their own pace. Give them a chance and you will be rewarded beyond your greatest expectations”
She also added that seeing what her daughter has achieved has also inspired her:
“I think it is time people realized that people with Down syndrome can be sexy and beautiful and should be celebrated. Maddy’s boyfriend sure thinks she is sexy and that is pretty fantastic in my book. If the average person could see the beauty Maddy has inside, how loving and caring she is and if that is what people measured beauty on, than most of the models in the world would have Down syndrome. It truly is a beautiful thing.”
“I want people to stop saying ‘I’m sorry’ when I tell them my daughter has Down syndrome, because it’s a very naive statement”
“If the average person could see the beauty Maddy has inside, how loving and caring she is and if that is what people measured beauty on, then most of the models in the world would have Down syndrome”
“I feel so blessed to have a daughter like Maddy, I won lotto the day she was born”
